Now … Hiring?

July 17, 2008

We had an overwhelming response to the on-line release of the first issue and now we are gearing up and thinking about what comes next. We are hoping to continue in the same fashion, this time in a full print release.

This means we need help. Since we are just a bunch of twenty-somethings (albeit hip, quirky, motivated, and talented) We are looking for people who are interested in writing, editing, maintaining the blog, taking photos, walking the dog, drawing pictures, etc.

We cannot offer any compensation, just the opportunity to get in at the ground level of a blossoming new publication and shape the face of what your community reads and sees.

We are also partially submission based. If anyone has any written pieces, photography, drawings or whatever we would love to incorporate them into the publication. We will consider anything that is sent our way.

Inquiries and submissions can be sent to phoebe.magazine@gmail.com

We hope to hear from you!

Inner Fire District

July 17, 2008

Its Yiddish. Its Radical. Its Balkan Folk. Its the Inner Fire District

This quartet of accordion, bass, clarinet, piano and vocals has been carving a serious niche for themselves on the Burlington sound scene.

So I guess we got some fan mail, courtesy of kiwilover1234

Hi!

So, a while ago my friend brought me a poster with “phoebe” all over it (that being my name) and I thought it was nice, good graphic design and what not, but I had no idea what it was for. Then I saw the launch party poster over at Muddy’s. Then finally the mystery unraveled when my friend sent me the link for the magazine. I am thrilled to share my name with this magazine. Seven Days does its share for the arts community but this is so great. I’m headed down to brooklyn for art school in the fall and I was thinking how Burlington deserves to have its arts community as well publicized.I can’t get over this…it’s so much I love about VT art in 58 pages. If I could be a magazine, I would be this one.

-Phoebe

Thanks Phoebe! We’re glad you lent us your name. I hope we can continue to be the magazine you wish to be.

this site is a great image-sharing site, an inspiration for artists, and is all-around cool.

Loufest 2008!

May 4, 2008

Hi all -

phoebe. wants to wholeheartedly thank the Premarital Sextet for coming out last Tuesday to do a show at our release party.  It was a big hit and we are still riding high on the good times (and cramming in some studying for our impending exams).

This coming Wednesday, Club Metronome is hosting what promises to be another rager.  Loufest 2008 will feature Big Lou with the Premarital Sextet and a few other acts including Deuch and Mil, Cause, and Youth in Asia.  It’s shaping up to be a night none of the phoebe. crew want to miss.

Check out the Facebook event for more information.

See you there!
